RSDL – Reactive Skin Decontamination Lotion

RSDL (Reactive Skin Decontamination Lotion) is a specialized decontamination solution designed for the rapid and effective decontamination of skin following exposure to chemical warfare agents and toxic industrial chemicals. The product has been used for many years by armed forces and security services and represents a standard solution for personal decontamination in CBRN environments.

STEBERG s.r.o. is the exclusive distributor and sales representative of RSDL for the Slovak Republic and the Czech Republic.

Product Description

RSDL is supplied as a single-use pouch containing a sponge impregnated with a reactive decontamination lotion. The lotion is designed to:

  • chemically neutralize toxic substances,

  • bind chemical warfare agents on the skin,

  • allow safe removal by subsequent rinsing.

RSDL is intended primarily for use on unprotected (bare) skin and, in justified cases, may also be used on selected equipment or surface areas.

RSDL is an FDA-approved medical device and was introduced as a modern replacement for older charcoal-based decontamination kits (e.g. M291), offering easier application, lower toxicity, and improved user comfort.

Effectiveness

Laboratory testing has demonstrated that RSDL is capable of neutralizing chemical warfare agents within approximately two minutes of application, including:

  • VX

  • Sarin

  • Sulfur Mustard (HD)

  • Soman

  • Tabun

  • T-2 Toxin

Method of Use

  1. Identification or suspicion of chemical contamination.

  2. Opening the pouch at the designated tear point.

  3. Mechanical wiping of the contaminated area using the RSDL sponge.

  4. Thorough rinsing of the skin after moving to a non-contaminated area.

RSDL is not intended for preventive use and must be applied only after exposure.

Operational (Live) RSDL Versions

RSDL is manufactured in two volume variants intended for real operational use:

RSDL 21 ml

  • designed for individual personal equipment,

  • suitable for carriage in personal gear,

  • intended for rapid decontamination of a limited skin area.

RSDL 42 ml

  • intended for larger decontamination areas or repeated application,

  • suitable for response teams, CBRN units, and medical support elements,

  • identical composition and effectiveness to the 21 ml version.

Training (Inert) Version of RSDL

For training purposes, an inert (training) version of RSDL is available. This version does not contain the active decontamination ingredient and is intended exclusively for training and instructional use.

RSDL Training 21 ml

  • volume: 21 ml,

  • identical packaging, opening method, and application procedure as the live version,

  • intended solely for training and demonstrations,

  • not suitable for real decontamination.

A 42 ml training version is not officially confirmed and is not part of the standard product portfolio.

Safety Information

  • Do not use preventively.

  • Do not ingest or apply to the eyes.

  • Do not leave on the skin longer than necessary.

  • Do not store together with oxidizing agents (e.g. chlorine-based bleach).

Detailed safety information is provided in the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS).
