UNMANNED GROUND VEHICLE

Unmanned ground vehicle

Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs) are remotely operated robotic systems designed to support military, security, and explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) operations in hazardous environments. These robotic platforms allow operators to detect, identify, and neutralize threats such as improvised explosive devices (IEDs), land mines, and unexploded ordnance while maintaining a safe stand-off distance.

One of the most widely used systems in this category is the MK2 MTRS (Man Transportable Robotic System) developed by QinetiQ. This advanced robotic platform provides military and security forces with the capability to detect, identify, and dispose of explosive threats using specialized payload modules designed for bomb disposal operations.

The system enables operators to safely locate and neutralize hazardous devices located along operational routes or within urban environments. It can also assist in clearing mines and unexploded ordnance that may obstruct the movement of military units or joint operational forces.

The TALON unmanned ground vehicle, developed by QinetiQ, serves as the core platform for many MTRS configurations. This tracked robotic vehicle is lightweight, highly maneuverable, and designed for a wide range of mission profiles including explosive ordnance disposal, reconnaissance, communications support, counter-CBRNE operations (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive threats), security tasks, heavy lifting, and rescue operations.

The TALON platform is capable of moving at speeds of up to 6 miles per hour (approximately 9.6 km/h) and can be transported and deployed by a single operator. Its robust tracked design enables reliable operation in harsh weather conditions and difficult terrain while maintaining a high payload capacity.

The TALON V configuration includes multiple interface options and advanced digital architecture. The system provides 16 input/output ports, including Interoperability Profile (IOP) A and B connectors, and utilizes JAUS AS4-compliant software for improved system integration and communication between robotic platforms.

The platform supports plug-and-play integration of various mission modules, including high-definition and standard-definition cameras, optional dual-mode thermal and daylight zoom cameras, and advanced manipulator arms with multiple degrees of freedom for handling hazardous objects. It is also compatible with a range of third-party and legacy TALON manipulators, allowing flexible mission configuration.
