These protective covers are worn over standard combat boots or most types of blast‑resistant footwear to enhance foot protection during contact with unknown ground surfaces.

Current protective footwear solutions for deminers and EOD specialists often utilize multi‑layer materials that provide high resistance against blast effects, fragmentation, and penetration, while maintaining flexibility and comfort for long‑duration wear in demanding terrain. Some advanced boots are built with metal‑free construction to prevent interference with metal detectors used for mine detection, and are tested to provide effective protection against blast forces equivalent to up to 50 g of TNT under military standard evaluations.
